Cairnhill Structures is so committed to its policy of sustainability that it has taken the message into the classrooms of the local primary school.
The company has formed a partnership with St Patrick's Primary School in Coatbridge, and produced sustainability packs explaining the vital connection between industry and the finite resources of the world.
The school was so impressed with the help and support that Cairnhill provided they invited the company to become their business partner, and managing director Jack Sanderson is now the school's industry sponsor.
Cairnhill's sustainability packs included miniature solar panels and wind turbines to let the pupils see how natural energy can replace the use of fossil fuels. The packs also covered ways the children and the school could recycle more of their waste and reduce their energy bills.
One module covered using recycled wood and plastic to make planters, which suddenly sprung up around the school playground.
Jack Sanderson visited the school and interviewed all the children who had applied for various roles in one of the school's sustainability projects, the McFruiti Café which promotes healthy eating.
Cairnhill's links with St Patrick's paid off when the school recently won a Green Eco Flag, awarded by the Eco Schools movement in recognition of its ongoing efforts to achieve sustainability.
