Establishment of Parent Company, Watson Towers.

Cairnhill’s parent company Watson Towers was established by its two founders, Bobby Watson and David Towers in Pickering Corner, Wishaw as a steel stockholder and metal processing plant. Marking the beginning of Cairnhill’s business journey and laying the groundwork for future growth in industrial steelwork.

Acquisition of Frank Duncan Engineering

The acquisition of Frank Duncan Engineering led to the formal establishment of Cairnhill Structures Ltd, expanding the Group’s capabilities in design services, structural steelwork, and heavy engineering, marking a significant step into large-scale construction projects.

1992
Watson Towers Group Move to Sun Works

All subsidiaries were consolidated at Sun Works, a former Steel Foundry in Coatbridge. This centralised location streamlined operations, improved efficiency, and brought processing, engineering, and structural services together in one location.

1999
Further Group Expansion

The group expanded through the acquisition of David Waddell Engineering, and Milroy Engineering. This broadened the service offerings towards boilers, specialist pipework, and boiler spare components, strengthening its position within industrial engineering and fabrication.

Group Expansion into Light Secondary Metalwork

The acquisition of Findlay Campbell (Blacksmiths) enhanced Cairnhill’s specialist welding capabilities, increasing production capacity, and strengthening expertise in complex metal fabrication and engineering solutions.

2005
Launch of Light Gauge Steel Framing Division

The Light Gauge Steel Framing Division was introduced to deliver an innovative, fast-track building system, enabling accelerating construction projects, early weatherproofing, and improved on-site efficiency.

2010
A One-Stop-Shop For All Steel Solutions

A strategic reorganisation positioned Cairnhill as a one-stop shop for all steel solutions, streamlining operations, improving coordination across divisions, and strengthening cradle-to-grave project delivery.

2017
Launch of Piling & Storage Tanks Division

The introduction of the Piling and Storage Tanks division marked an important step in Cairnhill’s diversification, enabling entry into new UK markets and expanding service capability.

2020
Launch of Metalwork Division

The Metalwork Division was launched to bring traditionally subcontracted elements in-house, increasing control over quality, delivery, and production processes.

2023
Expansion of Sun Works Site

Cairnhill expanded its Sun Works facility by acquiring the lower yard, increasing the site to 10 acres and creating capacity for future development.

2024
Acquisition of Clyde Corrosion

The acquisition of the assets of Clyde Corrosion integrated coating capabilities in-house, further expanding Cairnhill’s service offering and providing on-site coating solutions.

2025
Opening of Cairnhill Welding Training School

The Cairnhill Welding School was launched, becoming the only TWI CSWTO-approved welding centre in the Central belt of Scotland and strengthening workforce development and supporting a new generation of skilled welders within the Group.

Launch of C-Met: Metrology & Inspection Division

This division was established to deliver specialist Metrology and Inspection services; including dimensional verification, reverse engineering, and survey inspections, supporting the highest standards on engineering accuracy, compliance, and quality assurance.

Acquisition of RADD Training

The acquisition of RADD Training established a dedicated Training Division, expanding service capabilities and strengthening internal training to ensure teams operate to the highest standards, including Health and Safety, Plant Operations, and Construction.
