OVERVIEW

Cairnhill’s Metalwork Division was appointed by McConnell to design, manufacture, and install approximately 40 tonnes of structural steelwork as part of a rooftop extension and structural enhancement project on an existing 14-storey residential building in Falkirk, Scotland.

CLIENT

McConnell is a leading UK provider of refurbishment, planned maintenance, retrofit, energy efficiency, cladding, and fire remediation services for property owners across the UK.

Cairnhill’s Metalwork Division  were appointed by McConnell deliver the design, manufacture, and installation of approximately 40 tonnes of structural steelwork atop a 14-storey residential building. The £310,000 project was delivered to form part of a rooftop extension and structural enhancement programme, which required careful coordination due to access constraints.

All structural steel components were manufactured in-house at Cairnhill’s Sun Works facility in Coatbridge, ensuring quality control, programme efficiency, and full compliance with the project specifications and relevant industry standards. Fabrication work included primary and secondary steel members, connection details, and pre-assembly where appropriate to improve installation efficiency.

Due to the logistical challenges associated with working at height at restricted site conditions, the installation was carefully planned and strategically delivered into four distinct stages; North Elevation, East Elevation, South Elevation, and West Elevation.

By combining in-house fabrication with detailed planning and phased installation, Cairnhill’s Metalwork Division successfully delivered the structural steel package safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the project’s programme requirements.
