As we wrap up another week at Cairnhill, we’re delighted to share an update on our very own Scottie The Bruce, otherwise known as ‘Wee Brucie’ and the inspiration behind his striking design.
As we wrap up another week at Cairnhill, we’re delighted to share an update on our very own Scottie The Bruce, otherwise known as ‘Wee Brucie’ and the inspiration behind his striking design.
Our incredibly talented artist, Maureen King, shared her vision for Scottie the Bruce, created for the ‘Scotties in the City’ Glasgow Art Trail 2026, organised by Maggie’s Glasgow and Wild in Art.
Maureen told Maggie’s about her Scottie: “I wanted to create a character for the trail. One who is well known, with strong Scottish ties. Scottie the Bruce was inspired by my love of colour, but I still wanted to keep him recognisable as a Scottie as the shape is so iconic.”
“The Scotties in the City art trial is exciting for everyone. There’s nothing like the feeling when I see people enjoying and interacting with the sculptures. Another great thing about the trail is that it can draw people and families to areas they may not normally visit.”
Looking for our Highland hero? You’ll catch sight of Scottie the Bruce standing proudly on the banks of the River Clyde beside STV, overlooking Glasgow’s iconic waterfront opposite the OVO Hydro.
A huge thank you to Maureen King for bringing Wee Brucie to life with such creativity and character, and to Maggie’s Centres for giving Cairnhill the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful initiative.
