Recently, our C-Met Division has been delivering some exciting work on the iconic Kingston Bridge in Glasgow. With a new platform required by our client, and fabricated by our Special Projects Division, the C-Met team began by capturing a partial digital point cloud of the structure using the FARO Technologies Focus Premium LiDAR scanner. This allowed us to move forward with precise, real-world data.

The initial drawings suggested a 2% rise on the underside of the concrete deck. However, as concrete tolerances are typically far greater than steel, this interface was critical to ensure the platform would align accurately with the design. Using the survey data, we verified the connection angle at 92°, removing uncertainty before fabrication began.

Thus, the connection plate could be fabricated to fit first time; eliminating guesswork, packer plates, and on-site shimming. This is where digital surveying delivers real value – enabling precise designs, faster installation, and fewer site adjustments.
