On the 10th of June, the UK Government committed to an initial £14 billion to build Sizewell C, the first British-owned nuclear power station in over three decades. Cairnhill is delighted to announce that they have been awarded initial packages to assist with the site preparation and will be starting work later this year, continuing our group’s journey, which is now entering its fifty-fifth year of business.
Sizewell C is a multi-billion project backed by French energy company EDF and is building a 3,200 MWe nuclear power station with two EPR reactors in Suffolk. The Civil Works Alliance, comprising Laing O’Rourke, Bouygues Construction, and Balfour Beatty plc was appointed to deliver the initial civil works.
There is a genuine need for smaller companies that can contribute to the innovative requirements within the nuclear landscape, and we are pleased to see further work awarded to the SME market. Cairnhill is playing its part in the race to provide energy security for the UK, as we see significant focused growth for our businesses within key UK energy infrastructure and defence contracts.
