Cairnhill is seeking skilled and motivated Steel Erectors to join our team. If you have a strong background in structural steel and are eager to contribute to a growing company, we’d love to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble and install structural steel components such as beams, columns, and frameworks according to engineering drawings and site plans.
- Position and secure steel sections using cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment.
- Bolt or weld steel pieces together, making sure all joints and connections are properly aligned and meet quality standards.
- Read and interpret site layouts, and technical drawings to plan work accurately.
- Work safely at height using the correct fall protection and safety gear at all times.
- Coordinate with site supervisors, engineers, and other trades to ensure smooth progress on site.
- Maintain and check tools, lifting gear, and safety equipment, reporting any faults or defects.
- Prepare work areas, including marking out and setting positions for steel installations.
- Dismantle or carry out maintenance on existing steel structures when needed.
- Follow all site health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Report hazards or issues promptly to supervisors or the site manager.
Requirements:
Education & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (essential).
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Steel Erecting, Structural Steelwork, or a related construction trade (preferred).
- Valid CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- CPCS, NPORS, or other relevant plant/lifting operation certificates (advantageous).
- Working at Height and Manual Handling certifications (preferred).
Experience
- Proven experience as a steel erector, structural installer, or similar role in construction.
- Experience working with cranes, lifting equipment, and rigging operations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and steelwork plans.
- Familiarity with bolting, welding, and alignment procedures.

- Good understanding of site safety regulations and safe working practices.
- Ability to work confidently at height and in varying weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
