Cairnhill was appointed by Dogus UK to supply and manufacture steel girder beams, perform stud welding, and apply protective surface coatings for the replacement of bridges in Vyshhorod and Makariv, where the original bridges were destroyed during the conflict in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Dogus Group is one of Turkey’s leading construction and engineering companies, delivering major infrastructure projects both nationally and internationally. It’s portfolio of sectors encompasses roads, bridges, metro and rail systems, tunnels, dams, and hydroelectric facilities, and large-scale commercial and industrial developments.
Cairnhill were required to operate under an expedited program to ensure the beams were delivered ahead of installation deadlines, which risked delay due to the severe weather conditions experienced during the winter months in Kyiv. The project further involved navigating differences between the original requirements and UK-recognised standards, requiring close collaboration to align technical specifications to successfully deliver on-time, despite the additional time pressure added.
All steelwork was manufactured in-house at our Sunworks facility, from S355NL/ML material. The beams were dressed to a P3 finish, stud-welded, and then progressed through the full painting process. In addition to the primary steelwork, Cairnhill supplied high-strength friction grip bolts, touch-up paint, and additional test plates to enable the client to carry out their own internal friction testing.
Support was also provided with Customs documentation, final load-out, and remote assistance in relation to assembly in Ukraine. Regular visits were accommodated to Dogus third-party inspectors at Cairnhill’s Sun Works facility, as well as their subcontractors. Cairnhill identified that by utilising multiple approved painting contractors and arranging uplift direct from the painter’s premises, therefore, additional handling operations were reduced, and significant time was saved within the overall schedule.
With close collaboration between Ukraine and the UK, the restored bridge has reestablished a stable and reliable transport connection for communities in the Vyshhorod district in the Kyiv region – a crucial daily route for residents commuting to and from the capital. The R-69 Kyiv – Vyshhorod – Densa – Chernihiv Bridge Rehabilitation Project was officially reopened in November 2025. We are proud to support Ukraine’s infrastructure recovery efforts and contribute to rebuilding safe and sustainable transport connections for its communities.
