High Pressure Test Bunkers
Cairnhill successfully designed, engineered, manufactured, and installed ten bespoke steel high-pressure test bunkers for John Crane. With a £800k project designed to support critical testing operations within the petrochemical sector.
OVERVIEW
Cairnhill were appointed by John Crane to design, engineer, manufacture, and install ten bespoke steel high-pressure test bunkers. Within an 11-week schedule, this £800k project was delivered on time, safely, and to the highest quality standards of performance for Petrochemical operations.
THE CLIENT
John Crane is a key organisation which provides various services to the energy and process industries to ensure efficiency and reliability in their work, supporting innovative technology to progress into a more sustainable future.
Cairnhill successfully delivered the design, manufacture, and installation of ten bespoke steel high-pressure test bunkers for John Crane, supporting critical testing operations within the petrochemical sector. Each bunker was engineered with electrically controlled locking doors, providing a secure and fully controlled environment for high-pressure component testing. The robust steel construction ensured that, in the event of component failure, any rupture is fully contained, preventing wider damage and safeguarding personnel.
To minimise disruption to John Crane’s ongoing operations, the bunkers were pre-assembled off-site and installed within a live, fully operational facility using specialist lifting equipment capable of manoeuvring large assemblies in confined conditions. The installation required precise coordination, as the new bunkers had to be constructed around existing equipment already in service. Working closely with the Client, Cairnhill planned and executed a phased installation strategy that maintained full operational continuity throughout the project.
Using a combination of advanced lifting and integration techniques, the pre-built assemblies were carefully positioned, bolted together, and integrated to form a complete testing unit comprising ten individual test bays. The project was delivered within an 11-week programme, and was completed exactly to schedule, achieving zero downtime for the client and recording no accidents or near misses. The completed facility provides a high-integrity testing environment that enhances safety, efficiency, and reliability for John Crane’s high-pressure testing processes. Thus, reflecting Cairnhill’s ongoing commitment to precision engineering and seamless delivery in complex, live industrial environments.
