OVERVIEW

Cairnhill was contracted by Malin Group to fabricate, surface treat, pressure test, fully assemble, and transport 4nr, 60-tonne catamaran replacements to HNMB Clyde, Faslane, for the purpose of sea-level operations.

CLIENT

Malin Group is a key organisation that provides a comprehensive range of services and capabilities within the marine industry, supporting the infrastructure required to build and deliver naval vessels.

Following the award of a £3 million, 6-month contract from Malin Group, Cairnhill was tasked with the fabrication, delivery, transport, and installation of replacement 6-berth catamarans for MOD requirements related to sea-level operations. Each catamaran was comprised of three primary components: Appendage (Lower Section), Tank (Middle Section), and Platform (Top Section).

Working to a demanding schedule, the team at Cairnhill delivered the project scope successfully. All fabrication and welding for each section were completed in-house at our Sun Works Site, allowing full control over the production process. After undergoing surface coating in our dedicated painting shed to meet the client’s durability requirements, the catamarans were transported directly to the KGV Docks in Glasgow.

Once delivered, the final fit-out was completed dockside. This included full installation of topside GRP structures, handrails, and rubber and timber fenders to bring the vessels to full operational readiness. Prior to dispatch, each catamaran underwent a successful float test to confirm buoyancy and stability. Upon approval, the vessels were towed to their final destination, marking the successful completion of a tightly managed, high-quality build and delivery for our client.
