Cor-ten… a little bit of marmite?

Cor-ten, or weathering steel, is a remarkably versatile material. However, it does take a while for the patina to age into a rich colour, and before that, some would say it isn’t that aesthetically pleasing.

Of course, some would strongly disagree and think the rather rugged industrial look, against a very modern backdrop, provides a great contrast of styles that complement each other well.

It’s worth pointing out that the layer of rust that forms as it oxidises means you don’t have to use any paint, thus avoiding further harsh chemicals, and perhaps helping out the environment.

Cairnhill is trying to remain neutral in this parlay, but given our strapline is Steel Solutions, I think you can guess which side we favour…

This array of specially manufactured panels and gates is for a local housing development, and we are delighted to say they are looking extremely rusty already.
