Last month, Cairnhill’s Metrology and Inspection team supported the ongoing M8 Woodside Viaduct repair works. This included undertaking Visual Inspection, Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of the temporary jacking props installed as part of the ongoing works on the M8 between Junctions 16-17 in Glasgow.

These temporary props perform a critical structural function in safely transferring the motorway load off deteriorated supports whilst permanent repairs can be delivered. This project was highly complex, with each of the 23 supports requiring bespoke propping designs. This is due to varying heights, spans, and buried services in the area, such as gas/water mains and subway tunnels, making for an additional technical challenge.

With completion to be anticipated for 2027, the short-term goal remains to lift traffic restrictions as soon as possible. Cairnhill are delighted to contribute to such a strategically important part of Scottish infrastructure, ensuring these inspections uphold the highest quality and safety standards, and helping to keep the bigger picture firmly on track.
