Sizewell C Bridge Progress
September 8, 2025
The new Sizewell C bridge is currently underway here at Cairnhill, set to provide improved access to the main construction site once completed.

This design specifies twelve, 32-metre-long plate girders, each fabricated in full length with a 100mm pre-camber. Paired using Tension Control Bolts in conjunction with RSA diaphragms, each girder will ensure the structural stability required for the bridge’s performance.
To support the elastomeric bearings, machined bearing plates will be fitted to the underside of the girders, while shear studs will be welded onto the top flange to allow the bridge deck to be cast in place on-site. In addition, service support steelwork will be integrated, enabling essential services to span across the bridge once installed.
Together, these carefully considered design features will ensure that this 270-ton bridge meets the long-term requirements of site operations, playing a crucial role in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable access to Sizewell C.
