Recently, Cairnhill’s Special Projects team has been supporting essential repair works to the White Cart Viaduct on the M8 motorway between Junctions 27 and 28. Constructed in 1967, the high-level, multi-span crossing over the White Cart Water remains a critical transport link serving commuters to Glasgow Airport and the town of Paisley.

Following detailed inspections of the box girders, the team carried out required weld repairs and specialist testing, including Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), MPI and VT testing to ensure structural integrity was fully restored. Further inspections inside the box girders identified areas contaminated with mould, which was addressed before any further steps. With the affected areas being first sampled and sent for laboratory analysis, this ensured safety confirmation for our teams to disinfect, clean, and surface prepare these areas in readiness for the application of a 3-coat paint system.

Despite the complexity of the works and the level of coordination required, Cairnhill ensured all operations were delivered under rigorous health, safety, and environmental controls. By adhering to company policies and project planning, the works were completed safely and within the estimated timeframe, reinforcing Cairnhill’s commitment to quality, safety, and controlled delivery.
